Climate mitigation projects
There are various ways to mitigate climate change by reducing, avoiding, or removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Each will vary in cost, feasibility, and effectiveness.
Types of mitigation
As a water corporation, our operating environment is underpinned by our regulatory responsibilities under the Water Act 1989, as well as the commitments we’ve made to our customers. Through our engagement program, we know that our customers are looking to us to drive affordability and make improvements to drive efficiencies. These values influence our approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
We owe it to our customers to seek a ‘least cost abatement’ approach to climate change mitigation, whilst simultaneously promoting local environmental and employment benefits. This means prioritising decarbonisation initiatives that limit increases to water prices and offer the best value to our customers and community.
