What is the Water Saver app?

South East Water Saver is a program designed to help you save water at home. By participating you will be actively making a positive difference to Melbourne’s water future and the environment, and may save money on your water bills.

We are working with local communities to develop programs to use water more effectively and efficiently. This program is a trial with a small group of customers to understand how much water can be saved by using programs such as South East Water Saver.

There are plenty of good reasons to take part in this important water-saving program:

  • The potential to save money on your water bills by reducing the amount of water you use
  • You will have the chance to actively make a difference to our environment and the way we view water consumption
  • The ability to earn points through participation in South East Water Saver challenges
  • Reduced investment in the water network needed to cope with residential demand will help keep the cost of water down in the future.

As a South East Water Saver participant, you will earn points for taking part in water challenges to reduce your water consumption during each ‘Challenge Week’. You will earn points for reaching your target water consumption below your normal water usage during. The South East Water Saver app allows you to see your water use data, view tips to save water and earn points.

Frequently Asked Questions

As a South East Water Saver participant, you will earn points for taking part in water challenges to reduce your water consumption during each ‘Challenge Week’. We will notify you of Challenges the day before an email and/or a text message to your mobile.

There will be up to 12 Challenge Weeks from 27 February 2022 through 21 May 2022.

You will earn points for reaching your target water consumption below your calculated baseline (your normal water usage) during each Challenge Week.

At the start of each week throughout the program you will be notified that a Challenge Week is about to commence and be given a target for your daily water consumption. Your aim is to use less water than the target during the Challenge Week. If you do so, you will earn points. During the week, you can monitor your progress each day and find tips to help you meet your target.

Each week a new Challenge will begin, so if you don’t hit your target one week – try again the next!

The baseline will be calculated by looking at your household’s average water consumption for the four weeks leading up to the first Challenge. Your baseline will be set once and remain the same through all Challenge Weeks.

The South East Water Saver app allows you to view your water use data in two different ways in the ‘Usage’ screen.

The graph of ‘Daily’ data shows your water use for each day for the past week in litres per day. The dotted red line represents your target for the Challenge Week. If your daily water use is below the dotted line – you’re on track! If your daily water use is above the line, try checking the Water Saver tips at the bottom of the page to help you meet your target. You can also scroll backwards using the arrows at the top for a reminder of what your water use was like over the previous four weeks.

The graph of ‘Hourly’ data shows your water use in hourly intervals for the previous day. You can use the arrows at the top to scroll backwards to compare your hourly water use for the previous four weeks. If your water use is especially high during a particular period of the day, try to think what activities you were doing then and how you could reduce your water use during that time.

No. There is no cost for you to take part in this program.

Once you have successfully registered, you will be able to start earning points once the first Challenge begins. You’ll automatically earn points by participating in a challenge and meeting your target – it’s that simple.

The program will commence on 27 February 2022 and run for 12 weeks until 21 May 2022.

Once you start earning points you can redeem them at any time during the 12 Challenge Weeks. Once the final challenge is complete you will have a further 30 days to redeem your points. .
