Alternative water at Fishermans Bend

As part of the Fishermans Bend project we’re planning to construct a sewer mining pump station (SMPS) to extract the city’s wastewater for the proposed Fishermans Bend water recycling plant, so that it can be treated to class A recycled water.  Once completed, the sewer mining pump station will connect to Melbourne Waters Hobsons Bay main sewer.

Visit Melbourne Water’s project page here for more information about the Hobsons Bay Main Sewer project.

What we've done

We’ve worked with Melbourne Water to install an offtake and waste return structure to their Hobsons Bay main sewer.

What we're doing

We’re currently in the planning phase of the project. During this phase we’ll investigate potential design options.

We’ll also begin to engage with the community and key stakeholders on the project.

What's happening next

Once the planning phase is complete, we’ll begin the detailed design phase.

We anticipate that the design of the sewer mining pump station will commence in 2025, with the construction and delivery phase from 2027.

We'll keep you updated as our planning continues.
