What we’re doing

You might not notice a lot of the work we do because most of it is beneath your feet. Every day, we’re maintaining and upgrading the pipes and pumps that keep the sewage network flowing. With upcoming works at our Officer South Road Sewer Pump Station you might see us around.

This project will install a permanent odour control facility at South East Water’s Officer South Road Sewer Pump Station. The new facility will provide a long-term solution to help minimise intermittent odour in the area.

Here’s what to expect while we get the job done.

When it's happening

Works will commence in early November 2026 and take approximately 12 months to complete.

You can expect us to work Monday to Friday between 7 am and 6 pm and Saturday 7 am to 1 pm. On the odd occasion, we might need to work at other times for safety, technical or permit reasons.

You shouldn’t notice any change to your water or sewer services while we work.

What might impact you

We’ll do our best to keep impacts to a minimum, however these are the kinds of things you might notice when construction begins:

  • Machinery on site
  • More trucks on the streets around you
  • Noise and dust from construction machinery
  • Traffic control around our work zones
  • Fewer car parks around our work zones.
  • Intermittent increases in odour while we work

We’ll do our best to keep impacts to a minimum.

Don’t miss these details

We’re working with our delivery partner Abergeldie, BMD, KBR (ABK) to help us.

When we’ve finished the job, we’ll leave things how we found them and make sure we return any areas we’ve impacted as close as possible to their original condition.

Frequently asked questions

A sewer pump station safely takes sewage away and protects your health. We have 278 sewer pump stations across the south-east.

If you live in the Officer area, the Officer South Sewer Pump Station is the central collection point for your wastewater. This includes the waste produced when you flush a toilet, have a shower or use a dishwasher.

More info: Visit our sewerage page.

The system will treat odour using an activated carbon filter. The treated air will then be discharged via the sewer pump station's 15-metre vent stack.
