Renters are moving in

Let us know about the renters at your property

As the owner of the property, it's your responsibility to let us know if you have renters moving in. Or you have an real estate agent managing the property for you, they can also let us know.

You can do this in mySouthEastWater, once we have their details we'll open an account for them.

Renters can't move themselves into a property - this needs to come from your or your managing real estate agent.

What if I don’t have an online account?

If you don't have a mySouthEastWater account, it's easy to register. Just have your bill handy as you'll need your account details.

How much notice do I need to give?

You can let us know up to 30 days in advance, but no less than two business days before the move in date. This gives us time to arrange a meter read so that the right person will be charged for the water usage.

Yes, in some instances we're unable to bill your renter.

  • If your property doesn't have its own water meter, under the Water Act 1989, the owner of the property cannot request a renter pay usage charges
  • If it's a commerical property you will continue to recieve the water bill in your name

Yes.

Even with renters at a property, owners will still get a quarterly water bill. The renter is responsible for paying the water usage charge.

As the owner of the property, you will still be responsible for paying the water and sewerage service charges, as well as the Waterways and Drainage and the Parks charges.

Renters are moving out

Great news!

You don’t have to do anything. Your renters will notify us by logging into their online account.

What happens when renters notify SouthEastWater that they are moving out?

All the charges will revert back to you, unless we receive details for a new renter.

I'm moving back into my property

If you're moving back into your property after your renter moves out, there's no need to contact us. Your renter should let us know they're leaving, and they'll be billed for any water usage up to their move-out date.

To make sure you receive any future correspondence, please check that your contact details are up to date in mySouthEastWater.
