South East Water has introduced new chlorine dosing trailers to respond quickly and keep drinking water safe.

The trailers boost chlorine levels at key network locations when needed. Chlorine disinfects drinking water and protects against potentially harmful microorganisms.

South East Water identifies locations where chlorine levels need adjusting and sends the mobile units to dose directly into storages or water pipes.

The trailer’s updated interface lets South East Water operators control dosing and resolve issues quickly. Operators can access the system remotely, reducing the need for on-site visits. The trailers also have their own generators and can be deployed quickly.

South East Water Group Manager – Water Services, Declan McCreesh said the trailers allowed crews to respond faster to changing conditions and keep water safe for customers.

“These trailers will help us maintain high-quality drinking water as our network grows.

“They’re designed to minimise disruptions and manage chlorine levels quickly and efficiently,” said Mr McCreesh

Alongside the mobile dosing units, South East Water operates 25 permanent chlorinators, strategically positioned across Melbourne’s south-east and the Mornington Peninsula to ensure effective chlorine distribution.

South East Water is upgrading several chlorination sites across the network to deliver essential chlorination to their water network to ensure they continue to provide safe drinking water supplies. Works are underway at Chelsea Heights and Officer, Boronia, Ferntree Gully and Beaconsfield Upper, where the utility is replacing older units with modern devices.

These upgrades will provide South East Water with better control and help maintain high-quality drinking water for customers.
