Your pressure sewer system

Your Aquarevo home is connected to a pressure sewer system that is powered by OneBox® technology. Connecting each home to a pressure sewer network has many benefits for you and our environment.

By connecting each home to a pressure sewer network – rather than the traditional gravity sewer network – we’re able to close the loop, helping provide an integrated water management approach to the community where water coming into the development stays within the Aquarevo estate.

Components of the pressure sewer system

Your pressure sewer system comprises three key elements:

  1. Pump and pod unit. The pod lid is visible at ground level and must not be covered.
  2. Pump control panel (OneBox®)
  3. Property service line, connecting your pump and pod to the sewerage network.

How the pressure sewer works

Here’s how the pressure sewer works:

  • Household wastewater is held in a small pod unit on each property, which sits underground in the front yard of your property. The sewer pod is connected to the reticulated pressure sewer network.
  • When the tank volume hits a certain trigger level, OneBox® switches on the pump and transfers the wastewater away. In future, it will be sent to Aquarevo’s own water recycling plant.
  • When volumes sit below the trigger level, the pump remains off or is turned off by OneBox®.
  • OneBox® uses real-time data to stagger the transfer of wastewater from each property and reduce volumes in the sewerage network.

Protect your pipes and pumps

What you put down your sink or toilet can have a big impact on your home’s pipes and pressure sewer system.

Do not put these items down the sink or toilet:

  • Wipes, including the ‘flushable’ ones
  • Cooking oil
  • Syringes
  • Cotton buds
  • Razor blades
  • Grease
  • Condoms
  • Nappies
  • Tampons and other sanitary items
  • Pesticides and chemicals
  • Food scraps
  • Paints

If you are in any doubt about any substances entering the sewerage system you should call South East Water on 13 28 12.

Building and landscaping guidelines

As an owner or resident of Aquarevo Estate, you are responsible for ensuring the requirements outlined in the ‘Building and Landscaping requirements’ section below are followed. This will ensure the sewer pods work properly, and that any maintenance work can be done quickly and safely.

As an owner or resident of Aquarevo, you are responsible for ensuring your sewer pod meets the following access and safety requirements:

24/7 access to the sewer pod is maintained. This means the sewer pod lid should not be covered with permanent or temporary items including pots, rocks, wooden box structures, gravel, covers, lids or otherwise.

There is a minimum of a one metre clearance from the pump and pod unit to any footing, foundation or other services and a minimum of three metres clearance from the pump and pod unit to any window, door or opening.

When the landscaping your property, a one metre clearance zone around the pod lid is maintained. This means the pump and pod unit should not be covered and rocks or heavy items should not be placed right beside it.

The sewer pod lid should remain at least 50mm above the surrounding ground in accordance with the manufacturer guidelines. This means additional dirt, gravel or rocks should not be placed around the sewer pod lid.

Frequently asked questions

All of your household wastewater will go to a small pod on your property – you’ll be able to see the lid in your front yard (see image below). We connect this pod to the sewer network.

The OneBox+® controller monitors wastewater levels within the pod. Once volumes reach a set level, the OneBox+® will activate the pump and transfer the wastewater to the main sewer network and then off to a water recycling plant.

For more information, refer to page 10 & 11 of the Aquarevo Welcome Pack.

By connecting each home to a pressure sewer network – rather than the traditional gravity sewer network – we’re able to close the water cycle loop, helping provide an integrated water management approach to the community where water coming into the development stays within the Aquarevo estate. The pressure sewer system can also be used to even out flows to the local water recycling plant.

Other benefits include:

·       By controlling flows to the sewer network, OneBox+® helps us to reduce spills into the environment.

·       Using the OneBox+® controller, we can even out the flows to the water recycling plant which improves its operation and means there’s less demand on the sewer network during peak periods.

·       Pressure sewer systems, like this one, are replacing septic tanks and mini-treatment plants to reduce environmental impacts in places like the Mornington Peninsula and the Dandenong Ranges.

The OneBox+® controller monitors wastewater levels within the pressure sewer pod. Once volumes reach a set level, the OneBox+® will activate the pump and transfer the wastewater to the main sewer network and then off to a water recycling plant.

The OneBox+® connected to your pressure sewer system allows us to remotely monitor and control the sewer network and regulate sewer flows to help us provide you with a consistent service.

No.  It’s important that the pressure sewer lids remain accessible to our crews, as they need safe and easy access to the sewer pods in case of emergencies.

As an owner or resident of Aquarevo, you are responsible for ensuring your sewer pod meets the following accessibility and safety requirements:

  • The sewer pod has 24/7 safe access maintained for maintenance crews. This means you can’t cover the sewer pod lid with permanent or temporary items including pots, rocks, wooden box structures, gravel, covers, lids or otherwise.
  • There is a minimum of two metres clearance from the pump and pod unit to any building.
  • When landscaping your property, you must leave a one metre clearance zone around the pod lid so there’s access to the unit for maintenance. This means you can’t cover the pump and pod unit either, or place rocks or heavy items right beside it.
  • The sewer pod lid should remain at least 50mm above the surrounding ground. This means additional dirt, gravel or rocks should not be placed around the sewer pod lid.

If non-compliant structures need to be removed to allow safe access by our contractors during sewer maintenance activities, any associated costs will be the property owners responsibility.
