The Loo Lab
Our mobile toilet wee-cycling plant is a world-first innovation

Collaborating to drive innovation in the nutrient circular economy. We're taking urine from flush to fertiliser.
You may not realise it, but you (and your wee) could be contributing to the circular economy – finding reuse for what is considered waste.
We’re proud to be pioneering the world’s first mobile toilet treatment facility, where wee is turned into fertiliser to support healthy plants. The Loo Lab – our mobile toilet – has a built-in mini treatment plant where it puts the urine through a process to remove any nasties, leaving the good stuff that plants love and turning it into fertiliser.
How does it work?

Why turn wee into fertiliser?
Wee (urine) is full of nutrients that plants love. Also, if we can reduce the amount of wee that goes to treatment plants, we’re helping reduce the energy and carbon emissions that wastewater treatment plants produce.
By piloting this waste recovery project, we aim to better understand the scalability of urine capture and reuse plus all the benefits that go with it.
Who's behind this innovation?
We’re proud to have partnered with experts at the Australian Research Council’s NiCE Hub (Nutrients in a Circular Economy Research Hub), University of Technology Sydney and the University of Melbourne who are leading the way in this space.
