Works in your area starting 2026

You might not notice a lot of the work we do because most of it is beneath your feet. Every day, we’re maintaining and upgrading the pipes and pumps that keep water and wastewater flowing.

With upcoming works at our Longwarry Water Recycling Plant (WRP) you might see us or our delivery partner around.

Here's what to expect while we get the job done.

What we're doing

The Longwarry Water Recycling Plant (WRP) is requiring an upgrade to cater for future growth in the area. We’re delivering new and upgraded assets to make the WRP more resilient and adaptable to a changing climate, helping to manage catchment growth and provide capacity for additional flows from extreme wet weather events.

The upgrade will likely include:

• Preliminary treatment, including new inlet works, sewage screening to remove foreign objects and pollutants.

• Secondary treatment, including installation of bioreactors and blowers to assist the biological process and increase treatment capcacity.

• Tertiary treatment, such as Ultra Violet or Ultra Filtration processes, to treat wastewater prior to environmental discharge.

You shouldn’t notice any change to your water or sewerage services while we work.

When it's happening

We’re planning to start work in early 2027 until mid 2029. It should take around 2 years to complete (depending on the weather).

You can expect us to work Monday to Friday between 7 am and 6 pm and on Saturday between 7 am and 1 pm. On the odd occasion, we may need to work at other times for safety, technical or permit reasons.

Early works to prepare the plant for the upgrade is anticipated to commence in 2026. More information will be available once the scope and timeframe is confirmed.

What might impact you

During construction, we anticipate you may notice:

•Increased truck movements in the area and on Cathcart Road.

•Traffic management to manage construction impacts and ensure local traffic access is maintained.

•Periods of noise when heavy machinery is being used, including reversing beepers, continuous running engine/motor sounds and a temporary generator.

Don't miss these details

The Longwarry WRP upgrade is in the early planning phase, which will include applying for a Development License from the EPA in early 2026. More information will follow regarding this process and how feedback can be submitted.

Following this stage, it is anticipated that we will appoint a delivery partner in mid 2026 to commence the final design.

The proposed upgrade to the plant will be completed within the existing site. The maps below show the approximate location and proposed new infrastructure works plan.

When we’ve finished the job, we’ll leave things how we found them and return any areas we’ve impacted as close as possible to their original condition.
