Sewer works in your area starting soon

You might not notice a lot of the work we do because most of it is beneath your feet. Every day, we’re maintaining and upgrading the pipes and pumps that keep water flowing. With upcoming sewer renewal works at Cook Street in Mornington you might see us or our Industry Partner Abergeldie, BMD & KBR Joint Venture (ABK) around.

Here’s what to expect while we get the job done.

What we're doing

We'll install a 1.65 kilometre new sewer rising main from our Cook Street pump station (opposite Grange Road), along the Esplanade, down Tanti Avenue finishing near the corner of Pentecost Street and Nepean Hwy service road in Mornington. .

The new rising main will replace the existing rising main that is nearing the end of its asset life.

This project also includes constructing a Barometric Loop. We are still finalising the design and location of the Barometirc Loop.

To help finalise the design for this project we'll need to do some investigative works. These works include:

  • Feature survey

  • Locating underground services using electronic locating and non-destructive digging (NDD)

  • Drilling bore holes in the road to investigate the subsurface environment.

You shouldn't notice any change to your water or sewerage services while we work.

When it's happening

To to help us finalise the design for the project we need to do some investigative works.

We'll be working along the Esplanade and Tanti Avenue from 9 February until mid March. You can expect us to work Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm. On the odd occasion we may need to work at other times for safety, permit or technical reasons.

We'll also be working on Nepean Highway near Tanti Avenue and also Pentecost Road. Works in this area will begin 23 February for approximately 1 week (depending on weather). You can expect us to work Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 3:30pm.  On the odd occasion we may need to work at other times for safety, permit or technical reasons.

We haven't finalised construction timelines yet. We'll keep this webpage updated and notify the area prior to construction starting.

What might impact you

We’ll do our best to keep impacts to a minimum, however these are the kinds of things you might notice while we work:

  • More trucks on the streets around you
  • Construction noise from machinery including beepers when trucks reverse and the use of heavy machinery
  • Fewer car parks around the works area
  • Short term minor road and lane closures along Tanti Ave with minor detours in place.
  • Lane closures on Nepean Highway near Tanti Avenue and Pentecost Road
  • Changed traffic conditions and access in and out of Tanti Avenue and Pentecost Road at Nepean Highway. Signage and detours will be in place.
  • Road closures at Tanti Avenue and Pentecost Road with local detours in place.

Construction staff will be around to make sure people, bikes and cars can move around safely. You’ll still have access to footpaths and businesses in the area.
