Investigative night works in your area starting from late October 2025

You might not notice a lot of the work we do because most of it is beneath your feet. Every day and night, we’re maintaining and upgrading the pipes and pumps that keep the sewerage network flowing.

With upcoming works in Brighton East and Bentleigh you might see us or our industry partner Beca, Fulton Hogan, Interflow Joint Venture (BFHI) around.

Here’s what to expect while we get the job done.

What we're doing

The Bentleigh Interceptor Branch Sewer Renewal will increase the reliability of the sewer network and reduce the risk of spills to cater for population growth in the area and future proof the sewerage system.

This project will renew five kilometres of sewer pipeline in Brighton East and Bentleigh and is currently in the planning phase.

To help us plan the renewal, we're conducting investigative works. This involves assessing and monitoring the capacity of the existing sewer pipe, using temporary flow monitors. Our industry partner will install temporary flow meters in a few of the maintenance holes along the renewal to capture the flow data and then remove them after a two-week period. See map below.

When it's happening

For safety reasons, we’ll do the work at night over approximately six nights between Sunday 26 October until Sunday 23 November (weather dependant). We will only need to visit each maintenance hole a few times during this period.

You can expect us to work Sunday to Thursday between 7 pm and 5 am. On the odd occasion, we might need to work at other times for safety, technical or permit reasons.

We will pack up and return the road to normal operation at the end of each shift, so the area will not remain closed outside of work hours.

What might impact you

We’ll do our best to keep impacts to a minimum, however these are the kinds of things you might notice while we work:

  • Partial road closures in sections along the alignment as work progresses (please refer to map below).
  • Traffic management in place to guide road users around the work zone. We will pack up and return the road to normal operation at the end of each shift.
  • More vehicles on the streets around you.
  • Lights to illuminate the work site.
  • Fewer car parks around the works area.
  • Construction noise from machinery, like beepers when trucks reverse.

Construction staff will be around to make sure people, bikes and cars can move around safely. You'll still have access to footpaths and businesses in the area.
