Keeping water meters in working order, keeps your water running

Sometimes meters need to be exchanged, this might be because it's broken or damaged, tricky to read, too noisy, or there are issues with accessing it. Or it might simply be to upgrade it to a digital water meter.

The process of a meter exchange

We'll usually notify you 2-3 weeks before an exchange if your meter needs replacing or you're being upgraded to a digital meter. If the meter exchange is needed urgently, we may be in touch sooner. The exchange will only take around 10 minutes to complete and you don't need to be there unless your meter is hard to access.

Make sure we can access your meter

If Service Stream can't access your meter, because it's behind a locked gate or difficult to get to, they'll need someone there to give them access. You might need an appointment, if so, we'll contact you with details when it comes time to exchange your meter.

Different types of meters

There are different types of water meters to measure how much water you use. You may have an analogue meter or you may have a digital meter.  An analogue meter measures water with a dial that ticks over as the water runs through it and it needs to be read manually. A digital meter has a digital display, which changes as the water runs through the meter. The reading of the water usage is sent directly to our systems and doesn't need to be read manually.
