Water meters measure how much water is used at a property.

It’s how we calculate the usage charge on bills.

There’re a few different types of meters in use across our service area and we’re currently rolling out digital meters to everyone. If you haven’t received a digital meter yet, you’ll have what’s called an analogue meter.

Different types of meters

There are different types of analogue water meters to measure how much water you use. Analogue water meters display readings using mechanical dials or a series of rotating dials as the water runs through it and it needs to be read manually. Analogue water meters are read every 3 months.

How to identify a meter reader:

  • Wear a South East Water uniform and carry official photo identification.
  • May arrive between 7am and 6pm on weekdays.
  • Will never ask to enter your home, they only need access to the meter, usually located near the front boundary of your property.

If the meter reader is unable to access or locate your meter, a meter reading card will be left in your mailbox. This card allows you to submit your own water reading, helping us issue an accurate bill.

By providing your reading promptly, you can avoid estimated bills and ensure your water usage is recorded correctly.
