South East Water employees have joined water organisations from across Australia to Walk for Water, putting their feet in the shoes of 1 in 10 people around the world who don’t have access to clean water close to home.

A WaterAid initiative, Walk for Water asked participants to walk, run or ride to raise funds and awareness to support better water quality and sanitation in developing world countries.

South East Water employees raised over $6,000 for WaterAid Australia, helping to support on the ground projects in countries like Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and Cambodia.

South East Water General Manager Strategy and Stakeholder, Karen Lau said South East Water is proud to again join Walk for Water.

“Our employees look forward to Walk for Water each year to support better access to clean water and sewerage services in developing countries close to people’s homes, schools and healthcare facilities.

“We know how important clean water is to the health, wellbeing and prosperity of communities. Too many people in developing countries have to walk long distances each day collect water. We walk so that others – mostly women and girls – don’t have to.”

Tom Muller, CEO of WaterAid Australia said “We’re so grateful to the team at South East Water for once again stepping up for Walk for Water. Their commitment to WaterAid Australia demonstrates the power of partnerships in driving real change.

“Together, we can extend the life-changing benefits of clean water, sanitation and hygiene to communities who need it most. The passion South East Water brings to this event each year shows what’s possible when people come together for the same mission.”

WaterAid is an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation.
