South East Water recently welcomed 17 Bangladesh water management, social science, finance, economic and public health fellows to Aquarevo House in Lyndhurst, highlighting Australia’s leadership and excellence in both rainwater harvesting and recycled water.

The visit showcased Aquarevo, South East Water's unique collaboration with Villawood Properties, which demonstrates how innovative partnerships and shared learning can drive more sustainable, resilient communities.

Aquarevo is home to nearly 500 households, all equipped with a range of water-saving features designed to reduce the use of drinking water for toilet flushing, showers and baths, garden watering and laundry uses.

Aquarevo residents are achieving an average reduction of around 40% in drinking water use, with some homes reducing their use by as much as 80%.

The estate also delivers broader environmental benefits, with a 20% reduction in rainwater runoff, helping to lower flooding risk and protect local waterways.

South East Water’s General Manager Liveable Water Solutions Charlie Littlefair said collaboration across borders and disciplines is critical as water utilities around the world face increasing pressures from climate change and population growth.

“No single organisation has all the answers to the complex water challenges we face,” Mr Littlefair said.

“By opening our doors to international peers and sharing practical examples like Aquarevo, we can learn from one another and accelerate solutions that benefit communities everywhere,” Mr Littlefair said.

By expanding recycled water infrastructure, South East Water is enabling a resilient and sustainable water future for communities and businesses across Melbourne’s south-east and the Mornington Peninsula.
