Media release - Update: Boil Water Advisory Frankston South
A Boil Water Advisory remains in place for approximately 1200 households in parts of Frankston South.
The issue was due to a faulty valve causing low water pressure from Sunday 3 August which has now been repaired.
A faulty valve can cause unusually low pressure or no water and can let dirty water and/or sediment into the water pipes. Boiling the water kills any contaminants that might be there.
Customers were contacted by email, SMS or letter box drops. A live map and a list of affected streets is available on the South East Water website at southeastwater.com.au
A Boil Water Advisory is in place until further notice to make sure the tap water in the area is safe to drink while South East Water conducts water testing and investigations.
Drinking water is available to those who need it at: Yamala Reserve (playground area), 7 Dunstan St, Frankston South.
Customers are asked to bring containers to fill up.
Community members have been advised to take these measures until the advisory is lifted:
Boil water before drinking, mixing cold beverages, preparing food, making ice, brushing teeth and gargling
Sponge-bath babies and toddlers to prevent them from swallowing water
Give pets cooled boiled water or water from an alternative source to drink, such as bottled water.
Water should be cooled before being stored in a clean, closed container for later use. Care should be taken while handling hot water.
South East Water General Manager Service Delivery Tim Lloyd said the utility has a large team that was continuing work to return the water supply to normal as soon as possible.
“We have flushed the network and are testing the water quality before lifting this advisory. We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused to our customers in parts of Frankston South.
“We’ve issued this advisory to protect public health until we have water quality test results. Please continue boiling your water until we confirm your water is safe to drink.
“We want to again apologies to our customers for the inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience,” said Tim Lloyd.
South East Water has advised the impacted communities that unboiled water can be used for washing hands, showering and bathing as long as the water is not swallowed. It’s also safe to use unboiled water for flushing toilets, washing dishes and clothes, and watering the garden.
Customers have been advised to visit their doctor or local medical centre and inform them of the Boil Water Advisory if they’re feeling sick as a result of drinking water.
Frankston South customers who need emergency drinking water or have questions about the Boil Water Advisory can contact South East Water’s 24-hour Faults and Emergencies team on 13 28 12.
