Dingley’s pipeline progress to boost local communities
Works are underway on South East Water’s Dingley Recycled Water Scheme, delivering a climate-resilient water source to Melbourne’s south-east and supporting greener spaces for communities.
The project will provide up to 1.8 billion litres of recycled water each year, supporting more than 40 parks, golf courses, sports ovals, nurseries, and market gardens, keeping them green all year round.
The project, co-funded by the Victorian Government, South East Water and the future recycled water customers is expected to generate over $90 million for the local economy and create more than 240 jobs for golf tourism, agriculture and nursery businesses in the region.
Stage one includes building a 25-kilometre pipeline with a 12-kilometre transfer main from Melbourne Water’s Eastern Treatment Plant to Bangholme and a 13-kilometre connecting network to Bayside suburbs.
ABK Joint Venture, a partnership between Abergeldie, BMD and KBR, is delivering the scheme under South East Water’s Integrated Planning and Delivery model.
The scheme will supply Class A recycled water to help save precious drinking water, reduce the amount of water we need to draw from our dams and rivers in the future, and make good use of treated wastewater.
Expanding recycled water infrastructure and providing a climate resilient source of water plays an important role in securing drinking water supplies for the future which is a key objective outlined in the Victorian Government’s $56.6 million investment in the Central and Gippsland Region Sustainable Water Strategy.
The Victorian Government has contributed $24 million towards the Dingley Recycled Water Scheme which is expected to start delivering recycled water in 2027.
