Nippers dive into water safety

Beaumaris Lifesaving Club is ready to make water safety education more accessible to the local community.
The club received a 2024 South East Water Community Grant to facilitate its pre-season Fit to Swim program, which includes vital training such as the Nippers Swim Assessment and Lifesaver Swim Fitness Program.
The grant removes the financial barrier for families, ensuring more children can develop essential water skills and confidence to enjoy a safer summer.
“This generous grant from South East Water allows us to equip young swimmers with the skills they need to stay safe in the water,” President of Beaumaris Life Saving Club, Ken Bateman said.
“By investing in the fitness and swim readiness of our lifesavers and Nippers, we’re building a safer beach community for everyone.”
The program provides age-appropriate swim fitness assessments, helping Nippers gain confidence and master skills to tackle water activities with enthusiasm and safety.
South East Water’s Community Grants Program funds local projects that make local communities better places to live.
Beaumaris Life Saving Club’s initiative aligns with South East Water’s Community Grants goals, which focus on supporting vulnerable community members, promoting active and connected lifestyles, and creating healthier local environments.
“We’re thrilled to support Beaumaris Life Saving Club’s efforts to enhance water safety education and skills,” South East Water General Manager Strategy and Stakeholder, Karen Lau said.
“Ensuring young swimmers have the confidence and fitness to enjoy the water is a wonderful way to create a safer, more connected community.”
The 2025 South East Water Community Grants program opens on 17 February. For more information, visit www.southeastwater.com.au/grants.
