Sewer works in your area

You might not notice a lot of the work we do because most of it is beneath your feet. Every day, we’re maintaining and upgrading the pipes and pumps that keep the sewerage network flowing. With some works in Beatty Parade, Haig Street and Young Lane, Mornington you might've see us (or our contractor Comdain) around. 

Here’s what to expect while we get the job done.

What we're doing

This project is to upgrade aged sewer pipes so you can always rely on us every time you flush or send water down the drain. We've encountered an unexpected delay, so you might see us around for the next couple of weeks.

When it's happening

We started work in late March. After the unexpected delay, we expect to finish the job by mid April (depending on the weather). We'll let you know if this changes.

You can expect us to work Monday to Friday between 7 am and 5 pm. On the odd occasion, we might need to work at other times for safety or technical reasons.

What might impact you

We’ll do our best to keep impacts to a minimum, however these are the kinds of things you might notice while we work:

  • More trucks on the streets around you.
  • Less car parks around the work zones.
  • Noise from machinery, like beepers when trucks reverse.
  • A change in normal traffic flow.
  • Our traffic management team will be around to make sure people, bikes and cars can move around safely.

You shouldn't notice any change to your water or sewer services while we work.

When we’ve finished the job, we’ll leave things how we found them and return any areas we’ve impacted as close as possible to their original condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Sewer Renewal Program involves replacing or repairing sewer mains. This essential service aims to improve service reliability, reduce public health risks and mitigate the effects of failing sewer mains. 

The rehabilitation of the sewer main will:

  • Reduce potential spills to the environment
  • Improve service reliability
  • Reduce maintenance and repair costs 

Most works are carried out in four stages:

  1. Excavation (if required – in most cases digging is not necessary)
  2. Cleaning
  3. Relining pipe
  4. Final inspection

On occasion excavation may be required so you may notice truck movement and noise from this initial work. Otherwise all work within the pipe can be accessed through existing manholes and is controlled from ground level. Night works will be required to complete these works and will only be undertaken on the road or nature strip. 

Comdain will complete these works on behalf of South East Water. 

If the sewer main requiring renewal is located on your property, you will be contacted regarding providing access. Also, you may be asked to stop discharging into the sewer for specified periods. This means that you will have short term use of your toilet, washing machine, shower and other household appliances that use water.

You may also be asked to move your car to enable works to be carried out and you will be notified on the day if this is necessary. To safely undertake these works, traffic conditions may change so please take care when travelling around the construction sites. 

No. Your water services will not be disrupted during these works. 

The Project Team will reinstate your property and the work area as close as possible to its original condition. We will apply top soil and seed to grassed areas affected by works. Paved surfaces including driveways, footpaths and roads will be temporarily sealed to ensure they are safe for both pedestrians and vehicles until a final reinstatement is completed. 

There is no cost to the property owner for these works.
