From Portsea to Sorrento, South East Water is upgrading 4.4km of water pipes to ensure a safe and reliable water supply for Mornington Peninsula customers and visitors for years to come.

Phase 1 of works started in early August along Point Nepean Road in Sorrento from the intersection with Ocean Beach Road, towards the intersection at Greenwood Avenue. The works are coordinated with other major roadworks being delivered by Mornington Peninsula Shire Council at the junction of Hotham Road. South East Water expects this phase to be completed by mid-October (weather and council works permitting).

Phase 2 day works started in early September on Back Beach Road in Portsea and will last around 5 weeks.

Following these works, the upgrades will continue along Point Nepean Road starting from Point Nepean National Park and working in stages back towards Sorrento.

Customers who live in the area might notice some changes in traffic conditions and construction noise, and the presence of work trucks.

South East Water expects the works to take around 12 months to complete. The project will take a break over the Mornington Peninsula’s summer rush to avoid disruption and congestion.

South East Water General Manager Liveable Water Solutions, Charlie Littlefair said the upgrades would ensure a reliable water supply for Portsea and Sorrento communities for many years to come.

“By replacing these pipes now, we can work towards reducing water bursts and unplanned interruptions for customers and visitors down the track.
“We’re going to minimise disruption as much as we can, and we thank everyone for their patience while we deliver these essential works.”

South East Water will continue to provide water and sewerage services to customers in the works area.  Customers who experience a disruption to their services can contact the South East Water 24-hour Faults and Emergencies team on 13 28 12.
