Work near assets and easements

Your buildover guide

Before conducting works or building near water retailer assets (water and sewer mains) in Melbourne, you need to review the customer buildover guide.

Designed for our customers and stakeholders, these guidelines detail the requirements for building or conducting works near water retailer assets. These guidelines will help you to maximise the use of land while adhering to best practice procedures. They also aim to protect and maintain access to water and sewer assets.

With simple explanations and diagrams for ease of understanding, the guidelines are designed for everyone to use, whether it be a resident, a builder or a plumber.

These guidelines came into effect on 1 June 2011.

Determine location

To determine the location and ensure that you will not adversely affect South East Water’s water supply, sewerage and/or recycled water asset(s), it is recommended that you apply for a copy of the asset(s) located within the general vicinity.

You can request asset information online through Property Connect.

Obtain approval

You are required to obtain approval if you intend to build over South East Water’s easement(s) or within 1.0 metre of a water supply, sewerage and/or recycled water asset(s).

You can lodge your Buildover request through Property Connect.
